NO ONE OUTGROWS
JUVENILE DIABETES,
THE ONLY WAY OUT IS A CURE!
Hi, My name is Hannah and I am a Juvenile Diabetic
This is what a day in my life is like:
6:30 am Wake up and check my blood sugar level (BSL), which means I have to
poke my arm or finger for blood and let the meter read it; I eat breakfast and
get my insulin through my pump. Most kids have to have a shot!
9:30 am Check my BSL with the school nurse. If it is good I have a snack and get
more insulin from my pump. Again most kids would have another shot. (that makes
2 shots already)
11:15 am Check my BSL with the nurse again, have lunch and get my insulin from
the pump (that’s 3 shots)
1:30 pm Check my BSL with the nurse (boy, are they busy), if all is well we do
nothing, if I am low or high we take action with juice for lows and insulin for
highs.
3:30 pm Home from school so mom and I check my BSL, I get a snack and I get more
insulin, (that makes 4)
5:30 pm Check my BSL for dinner, eat and then yes, get my insulin, (that makes
5).
7:30 pm Before bed we check my BSL to make sure I will be stable through the
night.
10:00 pm Mom or Dad check my BSL while I am asleep to double-check my situation
before they go to bed. If I am low they give me juice, if I am high they give
me…you guessed it, insulin (that makes 6).
Sometimes they get up in the early hours to check me again if I was not so good
before they went to bed.
6:30 am - It starts all over again, every day for the rest of my life or until
there is a cure!!!
You can see why we are asking for your help. I want to find a cure so that I do not have to spend my whole life like this. As my mom said “THE ONLY WAY OUT IS A CURE.” Please help us by sending us a donation.
